We started our National Day Celebration with ‘doa selamat’ led by our male religious officer Shaikh Syahmi bin Shaikh Haji Fadilah and then we had dinner together.
The next few weeks, we held another National Day Celebration
which was open to all Keele University students. We introduced our culture and
tradition by having food tasting, traditional games, traditional costumes and
quizzes.
Then we continued with movie night and we chose a local
movie called ‘Yasmine’ which features a lot of places in Brunei and we are very
fortunate to have good local actress that
portrays our unique martial art called ‘Silat’. The movie was held in Keele
University theatre and we ended it with cheerful response from all of our
audience.

Celebrating National Day in UK was very different compared to
celebrating it in Brunei. We had such a great time and it felt like home celebrating with a lot of Bruneians which was what we needed
the most. Happy National Day!
