ASH’-SHIFAA’

ASH’-SHIFAA’

BruKeele had officially made a sister’s circle gathering called Ash-Shifaa’ on Wednesday, 4th March 2015 and it was held at the Islamic Centre, Barnes. It was host by the Brukeele Female Religious Officers’, Fatin Julaihi and Syana Ibrahim. Ash-Shifaa’ means the Cure and according to Darimi reports on the authority of Abu Sa’id that the Messenger of Allah (Sallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: “The Opening of the Book is the cure to every poison.”

On the first week of the Ash-Shifaa’, we opened the event with Surah Al-Fatihah and started to introduce ourselves with each other, which is also called Ta’aruf. Next, we do some activities like asking all the 5 pillars of Islam, 6 pillars of Iman, 99 names of Allah, 20 Characteristic of Allah, Characteristic of the Prophets. The aim of this activity is to remind all of us, because we as human being are often forget even the basic things in Islam and this help all of us to revive back memories. Before we end the event, all of the sisters pray Fardhu Maghrib together and closed the event with Surah Al-Asr and potluck session.

For the second week of Ash-Shifaa’, it was held on Friday, 13th March 2015. We opened the event with Surah Al-Fatihah and we did another Ta’aruf because more BruKeele girls attended the gathering. After the ‘get to know session’, we proceeded with the activities like the previous session. As we go along, we listened to ‘Rayuan Rindu’ by Raihan which aimed to remember Allah and get to close to the Almighty. Then we started to tell the story about the Prophet Musa and Khidir, as stated in Surah Al-Kahf verses 60-82. These verses shows how we cannot think that we are better than someone else because each person have its own special talent. In addition, we talked about the four women of Islam that has been guaranteed paradise. They were Khadijah Binti Khawalid (First wife of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W), Maryam Binti Imran (Mother of Prophet Isa), Asiyah Binti Muzahim (Pharaoh’s Wife) and Fatimah Binti Muhammad (Daughter of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W). Lastly, we prayed together, then we ate together and ended it with Surah Al-Asr’.

The third week of Ash-Shifaa’, we made it on Friday, 20th March 2015. As usual, we start it with opening the event with Al-fatihah and start the gathering by listening to Al-fatihah by Voice of Ummi. After the song, we asked all the girls if they know the meaning of every verses of Al-Fatihah. Then Fatin, proceeded with reading the translation and manage to tell about the contextual of the Surah. Al-Fatihah is divided into 7 verses, many different names and meaning of the Surah and Ash-shifaa’ is one of the name of this Surah. Inside the Surah, there are five main features like identifying, action, success, furious and heading to the wrong path. Narrated by Abu Hurairah R.A, he said, “Someone who prays but did not read the Ummul-Quran (Al-Fatihah) will be consider his prayer will not be accepted and consider as not perfect. Fatin and Syana takes turn to explain each verses with its meaning. As we go along, we explained there are seven verses present in the Surah and there are reasons why most of the things made by Allah was created into seven parts. For instance, there are seven days in a week, seven body parts;head, two hands, two knees and two feet, seven paradise and underworld, seven layers of skies and lands, seven nafs, and etc. Surah Al-Fatihah is read in every prayers and it is consider as ‘Surah of victory instead calling it the Opening for all Surah’.

Keele World Festival

This year BruKeele participated in the Keele World Festival; an annual event celebrating the rich cultural diversity within the Keele Community. The festival ran for 10 days from the 2nd of March til the 11th of March showcasing numerous workshops, taster sessions, cultural entertainments, quizzes and lots more. BruKeele happily took part in two main events that were held, that is, the World Festival Launch Party and the Asian Street Food Fete.

The launch party was on the evening of 2nd March 2015; where a few volunteers from BruKeele wore their national garments and explained where and what our beloved country is all about whilst also giving a sample of Brunei’s food (kindly provided by other members of BruKeele), also providing simple games to entertain onlooker.  Other members of the BruKeele society came to support.

On the 11th March 2015, BruKeele had participated in the Asian Street Food Fete, where members of BruKeele cooked up a bunch of Brunei delicacies to be sold in a ‘gerai’ style at Keele University. This event prove to be quite a success as many students and staff came and supported us by buying foods and local delicacies that they were curious about.

Hopefully this will not be the first and last time BruKeele participate in the World Festival.
