Assalammu'alaikum,

On the 20th of April 2016, Brukeele took part in a charity event called 'Spring Drive' (Declutter for a Cause) which was organised by Brurosa. It is a charity which support those in need throughout the world.

In Keele University, the collection lasted for 3 days and the we are very lucky to receive generous donations from our Brukeele members such as shoes, clothes, accessories and etc.

On the 23rd of April, committees gathered together to organised donated items

and we sent them to Oxfam and British Heart Foundation the next day.

BRUKEELE 32ND NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION 2016

We started our National Day Celebration with ‘doa selamat’ led by our male religious officer Shaikh Syahmi bin Shaikh Haji Fadilah and then we had dinner together.

The next few weeks, we held another National Day Celebration which was open to all Keele University students. We introduced our culture and tradition by having food tasting, traditional games, traditional costumes and quizzes.

Then we continued with movie night and we chose a local movie called ‘Yasmine’ which features a lot of places in Brunei and we are very fortunate to have good local actress that  portrays our unique martial art called ‘Silat’. The movie was held in Keele University theatre and we ended it with cheerful response from all of our audience.

Food preparations
It was a struggle finding ingredients in the UK but the end result gave us massive satisfaction

Enjoying food tasting

A very rare dish called ‘Ambuyat’ in UK

Dinner with diverse ethnicity

Deep discussion after dinner
Singing National Anthem and movie night

Taking pictures with Instagram props

Picture taking by Professional photographer (which is not free, of course)

Prize for quiz winner

Celebrating National Day in UK was very different compared to celebrating it in Brunei. We had such a great time and it felt like home celebrating with a lot of Bruneians which was what we needed the most. Happy National Day!
